Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed participating in different card games when he was young. He found himself getting very aggressive in these particular card games while playing his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a bit and moved away to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were tough as he would play countless hours and fail to win most times. He made some additional cash by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and focus attention even more on poker.

The actual improvement in his skills happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would regularly wager against each other. Howard had access into some of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his cunning thinking abilities. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit holdem.

He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker world ever. He relocated to Sin City in 1993 and played cash games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
