Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he enjoyed gambling on various card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little while and moved away to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and lose most times. He made some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could improve his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus even more on poker.
The actual advancement in his skills began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would frequently challenge each other. He was able to access some of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his strategic thinking skills. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the strongest women players the poker world today. Howard Lederer moved to Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
