Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. A further round of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players can get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in nearly all poker games.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complicated at first, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Since you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi/low provides an exciting array of wagering choices and because you have many individuals battling for the high, and a few shooting for the low. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
