Online poker has become globally famous as of late, with televised tournaments and celebrity poker game events. Its popularity, though, arcs back quite a bit further than its television ratings. Over the years numerous variants on the earliest poker game have been developed, including a handful of games that are not in reality poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely related to 21 than long-standing poker, in that the gamblers bet against the dealer rather than each other. The winning hands, are the established poker hands. There is little conniving or other types of boondoggle. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to pay up prior to the croupier broadcasting "No more bets." At that point, both you and the casino and of course all of the different gamblers acquire 5 cards. After you have looked at your hand and the dealer’s initial card, you must in turn make a call bet or surrender. The call wager’s amount is equal to your beginning ante, indicating that the stakes will have increased two fold. Bowing out means that your ante goes directly to the house. After the bet comes the showdown. If the dealer does not have ace/king or greater, your wager is returned, with a sum on par with the ante. If the house does have ace/king or better, you win if your hand beats the casino’s hand. The bank pays chips equal to your ante and controlled odds on your call wager. These expectations are:

  • Equal for a pair or high card
  • 2-1 for 2 pairs
  • three to one for three of a kind
  • 4-1 for a straight
  • 5-1 for a flush
  • 7-1 for a full house
  • 20-1 for a 4 of a kind
  • 50-1 for a straight flush
  • one hundred to one for a royal flush
