Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
