Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
