Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi lo starts just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of players can get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same notion in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem complex at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming assortment of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have several players trying for the high, along with a few battling for the low. If you prefer a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
