Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many entrants get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical concept in nearly every poker game.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

While it seems difficult at the outset, following a few hands you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of play simply enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing collection of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, as well as many battling for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
