Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
