Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha hi/lo starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of wagering ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where some players can get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in just about every poker game.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem complicated at the start, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of play simply enough. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting assortment of wagering choices and because you have many players trying for the high, and many trying for the low. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to play Omaha hi lo.
