Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
