Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
